   Trump announces US security arrangement with Denmark and Greenland¹²

   Trump announced around 18 September that the US had reached a security arrangement with Denmark and Greenland, calling it permanent control of Greenland's security; Denmark and Greenland said sovereignty was not transferred. It was signed on 22 September.

   Trump drops Greenland tariff threat on European countries³⁴⁵

   After weeks of tension over Greenland, with Denmark and France sending troops, Donald Trump said on 21 January he would cancel planned tariffs on eight European nations.

   • 21 January 2026: Trump cancelled planned tariffs on European countries over Greenland after meeting NATO chief Mark Rutte at Davos
   • Tariffs of 10 percent on eight countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, UK, Netherlands, Finland per one report) were due from 1 February
   • Trump cited a 'framework' on Arctic security and said the US would not use force to take Greenland
