   The Right to Information Act completed 21 years on 12 October 2026. A Satark Nagrik Sangathan report found about 3.85 lakh appeals and complaints pending across 28 information commissions as of 30 June 2026.

   Raj Kumar Goyal sworn in as Chief Information Commissioner²³⁴

   Retired IAS officer Raj Kumar Goyal took oath as Chief Information Commissioner before President Murmu on 15 December. New Information Commissioners were also sworn in, bringing the CIC back to full strength.

   • Oath: 15 December 2025 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, administered by President Droupadi Murmu
   • Raj Kumar Goyal is a retired 1990-batch IAS officer (AGMUT), former Secretary, Department of Justice
   • Eight Information Commissioners sworn in the same day
   • CIC post vacant since Heeralal Samaria completed term on 13 September 2025
